After my fat childhood and 20's... I learned the BIG secret of weight loss and fitness....I got moving. I turned into a jock and adventure junkie.
I climbed my first mountain, I learned to ski. My nurse job kept me moving. And then at the age of thirty, I started running. I lost fat and got fit. 
When in school, I did a weight loss study for my dissertation. Poring over reams of research studies, I learned that one of the most consistent findings was that people who exercised had lower weights and lower levels of body fat.

Let's pause right here so I can tell you a bit more of my story and how I came to create Win the Fitness Game. Starting in my late 20s I began to develop a regular exercise habit - starting with going to adult ed classes once a week at my local high school. Now that was fun for me - maybe not for you.

Then at a friend's urging when I was in my very early 30's, I started to run. It took ONE YEAR for me to create a self-sustaining habit - before that it took periodic reminders from my friend to get me re-started again. Sound familiar?

Then I created my own fitness game. That was to see how much endurance and capacity I could develop. I began to challenge myself to do more and I ended up climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, doing the Hawaii Ironman, and through-hiking the 2167-mile Appalachian Trail - at the age of 59.

I loved becoming an athlete. I loved my body! I loved the adventures I had. And then...

I developed chronic Lyme disease and over a period of a couple of years got sicker and sicker. Me, who could make almost anything happen, became so debilitated that some days I couldn't even make my bed. At one point I had a central venous line (IV) in for 6 and ½ months. I can't even describe the pain I was in - nor would I want to!

Finally, after 5 years, I regained my health, but my once incredibly strong body had lost lots of muscle, aerobic capacity, and flexibility.

While semi-recovered, I began to do the daily fitness activities you're learning about now. I couldn't go out for a run, but I could strengthen my quads while my oatmeal was cooking in the microwave. I couldn't touch my toes to the floor, but I could stretch my hamstrings while I was watching television.

That's my story. You can see where I am now. So you know, although I'm not a media guru or fitness celebrity, I know how to be fit. And I know how to sustain it over decades! I know how to get in shape. I love my body; I want you to love yours. I know how to maintain my fitness posture; I want you to know, too.
